How to play

Set-Up

Shuffle the deck, deal 3 cards to each player and divide all of the tokens between each player. All of the players need to start with the same number of ECTS credits. All players should also start with a drink.

Place the deck faced down on the table within reach of all players.

The discard pile will be placed next to it, faced up. When the deck runs out of cards, simply flip over the discard pile and shuffle it.

Objective

The game takes 20 minutes. Somebody must set an alarm, and nobody can look at it during the game.

This game has no winner. But there is one loser. The loser is the player who has the highest number of ECTS credits when time is up!

The other players must choose the punishment applied for the number of ECTS credits that the loser has or a lower one (from the Punishment List).

How to Play

Each player must have 3 cards in hand at the begining of each turn and it’s only allowed to take one action.

Play the different types of cards by placing them on the table. In one turn, the player can:

Attack another player: you make the other player take the number of sips specified on the Attack card.
Use a special card: the action is written on the cards. Help cards have actions that can help you, group cards have actions that affect all players and individual cards mean that you decide the player who is affected by that card.
Discarded cards: this turn can be used to discard 1, 2 or 3 cards and take new cards from the deck.

After each turn, the player takes the number of cards needed to complete their 3-cards hand from the deck.

When someone uses an Attack card, the other players can defend themselves using a Defence card (if they have one in hand).
When someone uses a Special card, the only way to be protected from themselves is by using the special card named Lunch Boxes.

ECTS Movements

During the game, the players drinking after a battle or an action are the losers. They receive the same number of ECTS credits as the number of sips they must take from the winners. This rule is applied to all actions related to drinking.

Erasmus Rotterdamus is a fast-paced game. It only takes 20 mins. so be fast and try to get rid of all your ECTS credits. But, pay attention, as it only the moment when the alarm sounds which matters.

When the time is up, everybody counts their ECTS credits. The player with the most amount of credits will be punished according the Erasmus Rotterdamus Punishment List, as he or she is using the Erasmus scholarship to study and not to party and drink, as it’s supposed to.

Please be responsible with the quantity of alcohol you drink.

Alcohol is not a game!

Tips And Tricks

Cards

These cards need an extra explanation:

Real Toast

When you have this card in hand, you can ask another player to make a toast with you. If the other player does it, you can give them all your ECTS credits. Otherwise, everything stays the same. In no case do you receive ECTS credits for using this card

Fake Toast

When you have this card in hand, you can ask another player to make a toast with you. If the other player doesn’t do it, you can give them all your ECTS credits. Otherwise, everything stays the same. In no case do you receive ECTS credits for using this card.

San Fermines

When a player places this card on the table, everyone starts drinking. It doesn’t matter how full your glasses are. The last one who finishes their drink, gets all of the ECTS credits from the person who played the card.

Faced Down Card

This is a special card. The person playing this card places it on the table faced down and addresses another player. Once it’s done, the other player must guess the number of sips specified on the card and drink them. Then, turn the card faced up.

If the player drinks less than the number on the card, he/she must drink again but double this number.
If the player takes the same number of sips, the person playing the card takes twice the number of sips specified on the card.
If the player drinks more times than the specified on the card, everything stays the same. (There is no ECTS credits exchange in any case).
